Recap: Chicago Cubs vs. Seattle

Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run single to pace the Chicago Cubs over Seattle, 5-3, in Cactus League action.

Aaron Miles, Paul Bako and Andres Blanco each knocked in a run for Chicago. Carlos Zambrano got the win by scattering four hits and one run over six innings. He also struck out six without a walk and contributed a double to the winning effort.

Chris Woodward finished 3-for-4 with a solo home run for the Mariners. Starter Erik Bedard allowed two hits in 2 2/3 scoreless frames. Cesar Jimenez was charged in the loss with two hits and three runs while recording just one out.

Chicago Cubs recap of loss to Milwaukee Brewers

Score: Brewers 9, Cubs 6.

Spring record: 9-11.

At the plate: Aramis Ramirez had two hits, including a home run. Alfonso Soriano also had two hits and Mike Fontenot one more for a .381 spring average.

On the mound: Jeff Samardzija's spring ERA rose to 9.90 as he allowed five runs in two innings. Carlos Marmol had one strikeout and one walk in a scoreless inning.

In the field: With two outs in the first, right fielder Micah Hoffpauir drifted under Prince Fielder's high fly but couldn't catch it. Then Fontenot threw a wild relay to third, allowing Fielder to score.

K kings: Cubs pitchers led the majors heading into Monday with 140 strikeouts, and they added nine more against the Brewers, three in one inning by Mitch Atkins.

Recap: Milwaukee vs. Chicago Cubs

Bill Hall belted a three-run homer and Corey Hart went 3-for-4 with a solo shot, as the Milwaukee Brewers topped the Chicago Cubs, 9-6, in Cactus League play.

Dave Bush was credited with the win after allowing a run on six hits in a four-inning start for the Brewers.

Welington Castillo recorded a three-run homer and one of Aramis Ramirez's two hits was a solo shot in the loss. Jeff Samardzija got the starting call for the Cubs, lasting just two innings after surrendering five runs on five hits and a pair of walks.

Scores: Cubs 8, Mariners 1; Angels 8, Cubs 2.

Spring record: 8-9.

At the plate: Sam Fuld produced a homer, single, stolen base and two runs scored in Mesa. Ryan Theriot raised his average to .444 with a hit and Micah Hoffpauir to .302 with one in Tempe.

On the mound: Sean Marshall allowed one unearned run in 41/3 innings in Mesa, but Chad Gaudin started against the Angels and was torched for six runs in 12/3 innings.

In the field: Marshall's throwing error on a double-play attempt at first base led to the only run he allowed. But he also picked one runner off first base.

Slow starters: Leadoff man Alfonso Soriano is hitting .148 and No. 3 Derrek Lee .182.

Next up: Vs. Angels at 3:05 p.m. Saturday at HoHoKam Park; Aaron Heilman faces Joe Saunders.

Recap: Chicago Cubs vs. Arizona

Chris Snyder hit a three-run home run as the Arizona Diamondbacks roughed up the Chicago Cubs, 9-1, in Cactus League play.

Josh Wilson went 3-for-4 with two RBI while Dan Haren gave up just one walk with two strikeouts in two innings of starting action for the Diamondbacks, who have won their last two games.

Andres Blanco drove in the lone run for the Cubs, who have dropped their last two games. Carlos Zambrano walked one and struck out three in two innings of work. Mitch Atkins was clobbered for five runs on four hits in one inning.

Recap: San Diego vs. Chicago Cubs

Chase Headley and Will Venable each had two hits, a run scored and a run batted in, as the San Diego Padres downed the Chicago Cubs, 4-2, in Cactus League action.

Travis Denker also knocked in a run for the Padres in the win. Jake Peavy earned his first win of the spring with three shutout innings, giving up only one hit.

Ryan Theriot and Mike Fontenot each had a pair of hits for the Cubs in defeat. Ryan Dempster received the loss after giving up three runs -- none earned -- on two hits and a walk in two innings pitched.
