The Chicago Cubs Are Better Because They Are Richer

By andy munger

The Chicago Cubs are guaranteed a lot of wins again this year. This is because they are in a division with a couple of teams that have not competed for the division title in years. These teams are the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates.

I think that I was in grammar school that last time that one of these teams was in the playoffs. They never made any progress and are the reason why the Cubs are more successful these days as compared to the '70s and '80s.

When they do develop players, they can't seem to hold on them.

Aramis Ramirez was practically given to the Cubs for nothing. The Pirate organization is a disgrace. Do you think the Cubs would've dealt Carlos Zambrano for nothing, when he was coming up to the big leagues? The Reds are not any better. They have not seriously contended for a long, long time.

When you add the Brewers to this equation in the National League Central, you can see why the odds are stacked in the Cubs' favor. Yeah, the Brewers have turned things around for a couple of years, but this is temporary. They finally made the playoffs after way too many years.

It is like these organizations have become like the Cubs used to be.

I am tired of seeing the Cubs in first place every year, and I know if they were in any American League division, this would not be the case. The National League is so weak, just like America's economy now. I don't know how or why one league would be so weak compared to the other.

It is starting to annoy me because there will be another summer where foolish Cubs' fans will get excited about a team that overspends the weak teams that can't financially compete anymore thanks to free agency. The Cubs will continue to beat up these quality minor league teams and remain at the top of the standings.

Hopefully, they will get so bored by October again, that they'll be unprepared and swept as usual.
